Each row spans one birthday to the next. Income is gross; taxes include income and positive investment growth.

How this projection is calculated
  1. Inflate today’s annual expenses before each year, including the first. From retirement, apply your retirement spending percentage to that inflated baseline.
  2. Use employment income until the retirement birthday. Income grows from year two. At retirement it stops and is replaced by your fixed annual pension/annuity amount.
  3. Apply the assumed annual return to the opening investment balance. Settle savings and withdrawals at year end.
  4. Apply the chosen effective tax rate to gross income and positive portfolio growth. Use the working-years rate before retirement and the post-retirement rate thereafter. Investment losses get no assumed tax refund.
  5. Close the year after income, tax and expenses. If funds run out, keep the portfolio at zero and record unfunded expenses separately. A later surplus can rebuild capital, but earlier shortfalls remain visible.

Closing balance = max(0, opening balance + investment growth − growth tax + gross income − income tax − expenses).

Today’s rupees = future amount ÷ cumulative inflation factor. Inflation impact sums the extra expenses above a constant-price baseline; it does not repeatedly sum the loss in value of the same portfolio. The separate terminal purchasing-power gap compares future wealth with its value in today’s rupees.

The last row ends at your target age. Depletion is flagged at a year-end birthday; this annual model does not estimate an exact month. All calculations retain floating-point precision; only displayed amounts are rounded.

This is an illustrative constant-rate model. It does not model market volatility, actual Indian tax slabs or capital-gains rules, fees, debt servicing, major one-off goals, longevity probabilities or changing tax law. Include regular loan payments in expenses and use a return assumption after investment fees. A funded projection is not a guarantee.
