Review how a policy would work for your family at claim time, alongside the renewal premium and headline sum insured.
Check the people and paperwork first
Read the renewal notice while you still have time to ask questions. Confirm insured names, ages, relationships, contact information and nominee details. Retain prior policy documents and premium receipts so continuity can be checked.
Use the Customer Information Sheet alongside the full wording. Ask the insurer to clarify any material change in benefits, premiums or conditions. If you are considering a change of insurer, check the required process and timelines before allowing existing cover to lapse.
- Confirm the renewal date and successful payment acknowledgement.
- Review the premium change and the benefits available for the coming year.
- Keep copies of requested disclosures and insurer acknowledgements.
Look beyond the sum insured
A shared floater limit may be used by more than one family member in a year. Check room restrictions, co-payments, treatment sub-limits, exclusions, waiting periods and restoration conditions. The word restoration alone does not explain which future claims would qualify.
Verify the current hospital network where your family is likely to seek treatment. Cashless authorisation is subject to the policy and claim process; it does not mean every hospital expense will be payable. Nagpur residents who expect treatment in another city should include that possibility in the discussion.
Review employer cover as a separate layer
Check who is included, what limits apply and what happens during a job change or retirement. Employment-linked benefits can change. Do not assume that a current employer policy will continue indefinitely or that it has the same terms as an individual policy.
A super top-up may help extend a cover structure above an aggregate deductible. Understand which eligible expenses count toward that deductible, how the policy year works and who pays the initial amount. Compare the combined terms and premium rather than adding two headline figures.
Use the tools to prepare questions
The health-cover calculator gives a transparent scenario range, with editable city, family and age assumptions. Those examples are not medical assessments or hospital-cost statistics. Use the policy checklist to record the conditions you still need to understand.
