Reference: tax year 2026–27. Familiar 80C and 80D labels are retained for clarity; the corresponding provisions are Sections 123 and 126 of the Income-tax Act, 2025. Eligibility and the chosen tax regime must be checked before claiming.

The investment bucket is capped at ₹1.5 lakh. Include all eligible amounts already using this combined bucket, including relevant pension contributions, rather than counting ELSS as a separate limit.

Health premiums use separate self/family and parent buckets: ₹25,000 each, or ₹50,000 where the relevant eligible insured group includes a senior citizen. Enter only eligible payments you made; employer-paid premiums do not create a personal deduction. Premium payment normally must be non-cash.

Other health utilisation means already eligible preventive check-ups or qualifying medical expenditure; it is not an extra deduction. The combined preventive check-up sub-limit is ₹5,000 within the bucket limits. The tool does not determine whether a bill qualifies.

This multiplies headroom by one marginal rate and 1.04. It does not recompute slab crossings, rebates, surcharge, marginal relief or total tax payable. Actual reduction can be lower or otherwise differ, including zero when no tax is due.

ELSS has market risk and a three-year lock-in for each investment instalment. Additional cover or investment should fit your circumstances; unused deduction space is not a reason by itself to buy a product.

How this calculation works

Old regime: investment headroom = max(0, ₹1,50,000 − total eligible investment-bucket utilisation). Self/family and parent health headroom are calculated separately using the relevant age-based limits.

New regime: these deduction headroom and savings outputs are zero. This does not mean that no other deductions exist under that regime.

Illustrative additional tax reduction = (investment headroom + self/family health headroom + parent health headroom) × selected marginal tax rate × 1.04. This is a simple marginal-rate illustration, not a calculation of final tax liability.

The planner uses familiar 80C/80D names while identifying Sections 123/126 of the Income-tax Act, 2025 for tax year 2026–27. Rules and eligibility were checked against the linked Income Tax Department material on 27 September 2026.

Questions about this calculator

These personal investment and health-insurance deductions are not available in the selected new regime, so this planner shows zero additional benefit from them. Other deductions have separate rules.

No. Eligible ELSS investments share the investment deduction bucket with other eligible payments. The amount already used must be deducted first.

No. A deduction reduces eligible taxable income. This tool multiplies remaining headroom by the selected marginal rate and 1.04 for cess, subject to its stated limitations.

The planner does not recompute slab crossings, rebates, surcharge, total tax due or individual eligibility. Consult a CA before acting or filing.
