Read beyond the sum insured

Two health policies with the same headline cover can respond differently to a claim. The policy wording and Customer Information Sheet help you identify conditions to compare. This worksheet records what you have reviewed; it does not read documents, rank insurers or calculate an actual claim settlement.

A deductible and a co-pay are different forms of cost sharing. The order in which they apply and which expenses are admissible depend on the policy. Ask for a written explanation of any unclear condition. A hospital appearing in a network list does not by itself establish that every treatment is covered or that a particular claim will be accepted.

Review the needs of each family member, any employer cover and your ability to pay out-of-pocket costs. Avoid sharing medical records in a general enquiry form; requested health disclosures should follow the insurer’s application process.
