Illustrative results only. Rates shown are user-selected assumptions, not product quotes or forecasts. Actual outcomes depend on markets, cash flows, costs and your circumstances.
BEHIND THE NUMBERS
Future goal cost = today's cost × (1 + inflation)^years. Existing savings grow at the selected return assumption.
Required monthly SIP = the remaining future shortfall divided by the beginning-of-month SIP growth factor. If projected existing savings already cover the goal, the additional SIP is zero.
Returns are treated as effective annual rates. Monthly rate = (1 + annual rate)^(1/12) − 1.
This model uses a constant return. Actual market values fluctuate and can fall. Tax, inflation and exit loads are excluded unless explicitly shown. Use a return assumption net of ongoing fund expenses; do not deduct those expenses twice.
A FEW USEFUL ANSWERS
A course, home improvement or other goal may cost more when the payment is due. Inflation is an assumption; check actual prices as the goal approaches.
No. Markets, costs and your contributions may differ from the assumptions. Review the gap periodically and reduce dependence on uncertain returns as a fixed deadline approaches.
