BEHIND THE NUMBERS
A fixed contribution is invested at the beginning of each month. Future value = P × ((1 + r)^n − 1) / r × (1 + r). At 0% return, the value is simply all contributions added together.
Returns are treated as effective annual rates. Monthly rate = (1 + annual rate)^(1/12) − 1.
This model uses a constant return. Actual market values fluctuate and can fall. Tax, inflation and exit loads are excluded unless explicitly shown. Use a return assumption net of ongoing fund expenses; do not deduct those expenses twice.
A FEW USEFUL ANSWERS
No. The assumed return is an input for a mathematical example. A SIP does not guarantee a profit or remove the risk of losing capital.
Some divide the annual return by 12 or assume end-of-month payments. This calculator converts an effective annual return into a monthly rate and invests at the start of the month.
A calculator can show a one-year illustration, but that does not make an equity fund suitable. Your goal date, need for access and ability to tolerate a loss determine the choice of investment.
