Health Insurance: explore cover beyond the premium

Understand who is covered, which expenses are payable and how the policy works when a claim arrives.

Explore a family-cover range

The cover calculator uses transparent city, family-size and age assumptions to build a conversation range. It is not a forecast of treatment costs or a medical assessment. Nagpur is the tool's Tier-2 example; insurer zones can differ, and treatment in a metro can change your needs.

A family floater shares its sum insured among eligible members. Ask how multiple claims, restoration and age-related conditions work. Compare the implications of including older relatives within a shared limit.

Why employer cover may leave gaps

Group cover can be valuable, but eligibility, limits and continuation depend on the employment arrangement. Benefits may change at renewal or when the job changes. Check whether dependents are included and whether room limits, co-payments or treatment exclusions apply.

The tool displays employer cover separately rather than automatically reducing the independent-cover range. Review the result both with and without continued employment-linked cover.

Health insurance renewal checklist

  • Confirm all insured names, ages, relationships, contact details and nominee information.
  • Check the renewal date, payment method, premium change and any action required before expiry.
  • Review sum insured, bonus and restoration conditions alongside expected treatment location.
  • Read the Customer Information Sheet and wording for room limits, co-payments, exclusions and remaining waiting periods.
  • Check preferred hospitals in the current network and understand cashless authorisation requirements.
  • Review material health or occupation information that the insurer asks you to disclose; retain acknowledgements and prior policy documents.
  • If changing cover or insurer, ask how continuity, underwriting and portability terms apply before cancelling existing cover.

Understand a super top-up

A super top-up can be a cost-efficient way to explore a higher overall cover structure, depending on its premium and deductible. It typically responds after eligible expenses cross an aggregate deductible under the contract. It is not a replacement for reading the base policy.

Ask which bills count towards the deductible, whether the policy periods align, how co-payments apply and who funds the deductible if employer cover ends. Compare the combined structure and wording rather than simply adding two headline cover amounts.
